Recently, a couple of people brought up their crème brulee cravings. Being the good friend that I am (plus the sudden random urge to bake), I decided to make some crème brulees! Crème brulees always make people so happy. And they are so fun and easy to make.
Isn’t that one HUGE crème brulee? Lol I did not have any other options, as I was out of things to bake them in.
I still don’t have a blow torch at home. And honestly, I don’t feel the need for one. I don’t really care too much for the bruleed sugar on top anyways. Besides, if I really really wanted the bruleed sugar, there are other methods to do it without a torch. But I opted for the faster and easier option. I used marshmallows instead.
We all know that crème brulees are served cold. But with the S’mores crème brulee, so many people were requesting it warm! We in the kitchen were all like WTF? But what can I say, more people wanted them warm than cold. As more and more people were requesting it WARM, we just simply had to cave into giving into the option of being served warm or cold (as is). The servers started asking customers if they wanted the s’mores crème brulee “warm or cold” as if it should even be an option. I know we are supposed to taste everything we make that we serve, but honestly, I never tasted the warm version!! I just warmed it up upon request, then served. They were pleased, so I took that as a positive response. Warm crème brulee just seems wrong to me. Well….maybe not lol. Not if they are “S’moresy-licious”. I’ve tasted our cold (as it was meant to be) version plenty of times of course. I just imagined that as being warm. Warm melty chocolate does not sound too bad, actually.
But since I personally prefer the crème brulees cold, I’d place the them (the crème brulees) in a hotel pan packed with ice when sticking ’em in the oven. That way, I don’t have to worry about the custard part getting warmed. Only the marshmallows will melt as desired. This packing in ice method can also be used to caramelize the sugar when not having a blow torch, buuuut~ the marshmallow way is much easier and quicker, in my opinion. And I don’t care too much for the bruleed sugar part anyways, so for me, it works.
What is your favorite crème brulee? I can’t say I have one favorite. But I love plain vanilla, espresso, chocolate, and Reese’s. Yeah all of them are too delicious to have just one favorite.
