I rarely get cravings for baked goods (as most of you probably know) since they are always in my face all day. But as I mentioned before, I do get random seldom cravings. I think the last time I had one of those cravings at home was some time ago…ummm like last year. And it was for banana bread. I love the smell that fills your home when there is banana bread in the oven. You can eat it as dessert, or if you are a grazer like me, they are great for snacking on in between meals.
So I was eager to try out one of her recipes. I was sure that she must have a banana bread recipe or two in her archive (she has a recent banana bread post as well. Woo!). This is the page I came across, listing several of the banana bread recipes on her blog. Yum! The Brown Butter Strawberry Banana Bread seemed most appetizing at the time. Her recipe calls for brown butter. And we all know that brown butter makes everything yummier. I love the smell of butter being browned. There is just something about that nutty browning smell that makes you feel all warm and comforted. It’s a sign that something delicious is about to happen.
Anyways, the lack of a bread loaf pan was not an issue. I used whatever I had (as usual). I had some cake pans and muffin tins. I went with a heart shaped cake pan (awwww) and used the leftover batter in the muffin tins.
Of course, I wasn’t going to eat the entire batch of the banana strawberry yumminess by myself. I texted my friend J (along with pics) to see if he wanted some. He LOVES banana bread.
J swung by later that evening (he lives down the street) and I just ended up giving him the entire heart, sliced. I figured the “muffins” were more than enough for me alone.
“Huh? Blueberries? No they are strawberries,” I told him. “Oh really? I thought they were blueberries lol.” I think I would love this substituted with blueberries too. Blueberries and bananas…..yum!
That first straight out of the oven “muffin” was the first and only one I ate that day. The next day, I ate another one. And I think that was just the perfect amount for me to satiate my banana bread craving. Since I gave J the heart batch, and I had a couple of the “muffin” ones, I had additional “muffins” left over. I had made a total of eight “muffins”, so I had six remaining.
“Here you go,” I said to him while handing him the batch. I tried to just hand him the batch and close the door lol. I was in the middle of something (probably watching a drama lol) and I was in a hurry to kick him out. But he kept rambling on about something and it was hard to get him to leave. But when he finally did, I went back to my business.
“Ummm no, I gave you everything that I had left,” I told him.
“Can you make me some more?” he asked.
“I don’t even have the ingredients right now to make more,” I said.
“The next time I bake something, I’ll give you some,” I told him, hoping that he didn’t start begging.
So thanks, Joy the Baker. My neighbor friends and I loved your Brown Butter Banana Strawberry Bread recipe.
Sandra said that the main character (Soo Kyung) reminded her of me. Soo Kyung is always hungry and LOVES eating. Everything she eats is eaten extremely deliciously. I almost think being able to eat deliciously is a skill or talent. There are some people that can make anything look delicious when they eat it. And then there are others that make eating look like a chore, only eating because they need to or else they’d die…they don’t enjoy their food at all (I hate eating with those kinds of people). They always look like they are eating prison food.
She didn’t say anything that day, but later she said to me, “OMG! You made me crave a pickle sooooooooo bad that day. I went home and I was looking for a pickle. I wanted one so badly after watching you eat it. You don’t even understand how much you made me want to eat a pickle!” She said she’s never seen anyone eat a pickle so deliciously. Yeah, I am that good lol.
